In my thirties, after fifteen years in the music business, I embarked on a new adventure: getting my Ph. D. in History, and researching the early history of New Orleans, which eventually brought me to the faculty at Loyola University New Orleans where now I teach both History and Music Industry Studies.
My first book, to be published in October 2015 by Princeton University Press. Building the Land of Dreams: New Orleans and the Transformation of Early America tells the story of how the Crescent City was attached — politically, economically, and culturally — to the young United States in the first two decades of the nineteenth century.
